Where is Sapa?
Sapa or Sa Pa as it is also known is nestled in the Lao Cai Province in the northwest of Vietnam. The town is 380 km (236 miles) northwest of Hanoi and 37 km (22 miles) from the Chinese border.

Sapa is home to the Black Hmong and Red Dao hilltribe minorities and was a former French hill station, valued for its cooler mountain climate. From the 1920’s Sapa was a much-loved destination for French colonialists wanting to escape the heat of Hanoi.
The town is the gateway to Fansipan “the Roof of Indochina” the tallest mountain in the Hoang Lien Son Range. Fansipan is popular with trekkers, but it can also be reached by taking the funicular and cable car from Sa Pa Station.

Although inspired by Sapa’s French colonial era of the 1920’s and 1930’s, the Hotel de la Coupole Sapa history is much younger, opening its doors in December 2018.
This elegantly eccentric hotel is one of the most unique places to stay in Sapa. Every surface of the hotel is a feast for the eyes that was lovingly created by world-renowned designer Bill Bensley, the designer of the equally impressive InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.

When you walk into the lobby of Hotel de la Coupole Sapa – M Gallery you will be instantly transported to a bygone era. Period style furnishings, hats and trunks blend with subtle hill tribe designs and traditional Vietnamese elements to create a whimsical wonderland filled with colour.
You will be charmed and captivated as you discover each new detail when you explore the hidden nooks and crannies of this fascinating space.
The reception staff were attentive and eager to make our stay a most memorable experience. We were greeted with a cup of hot cocoa, the perfect welcome for a cool, misty day.
Rooms at Hotel de la Coupole Sapa
The Hotel de la Coupole is one of the best Sapa hotels with views. Here you will find a variety of King and Twin Rooms with a choice of city view, courtyard view or mountain views. There are also a range of luxury suites including the opulent Presidential Suite which offers the absolute best panoramic views of Sapa.
We were struck by the elegance of our Classic King room which exuded an air of timeless French chic. The golden glow of the walls and drapes added an atmosphere of warmth which blended well with the black and white accents of the room.
Most delightful were the hidden touches that paid tribute to the local hilltribes. Lamp shades resembled the headdresses of the hilltribe women and the armchair, wall art and floor displayed patterns that can be found in the woven textiles of the hilltribe villagers.
Also featured throughout the room were vintage fashion plates, an eye-catching theme that can be seen throughout the hotel.
The sophisticated black and white art deco styled bathroom features a marble vanity, rainfall shower, hairdryer, robe, and separate toilet. The room also contains a mini bar, tea and coffee making facilities and a forty-three-inch LCD TV and room safe.
Hotel de la Coupole Sapa – Swimming Pool & Fitness Centre
Even if you are not a swimmer, you really need to pay a visit to the Le Grand Bassin swimming pool, the pride and glory of the Hotel de la Coupole Sapa Vietnam.
Le Grand Bassin
Le Grand Bassin is a breathtaking fantasyland of vibrant blues and greens which are illuminated with splashes of scarlet that radiate from the chandeliers.
Here the art deco influence is taken to extreme as massive male statues appear frozen in time, ready to dive gracefully into the pool. The indoor fountain gently trickles and is overlooked by mosaics of swimsuit clad beauties straight out of a bygone era.
Light fills the room from the floor to ceiling windows and comfortable sitting areas are spread across this large room. Le Grand Bassin is the perfect place to enjoy a daily swim or relax with a book, cocktail, or snack from the pool menu.
The Athleticum
For those wanting to continue a fitness regime while on holiday look no further than the Athleticum. This well-appointed gym is located within the Le Grand Bassin complex and offers a range of fitness equipment and weights.

Absinthe
At Absinthe you can admire the natural beauty of the mountains as you gather around the fireplace on the rooftop terrace. On colder days get warm and cosy as you sit inside an interior inspired by the glamour and sophistication of Coco Chanel.
Furnished in shades of purple and fuchsia you will find a striking collection of art, clothing and objet d’art that pays tribute to the fashions of yesteryear.
Absinthe is the place to relax with a glass of wine, predinner cocktail or light meal from a menu inspired by famous artists from all over the world.
Absinthe is open between 11 am and 11 pm daily.
Chic Restaurant
Chic offers a menu of classic French dishes, Sapa specialties and a range of breakfast choices that feature the finest and freshest local ingredients.
During the warmer weather take in spectacular mountain scenery as you dine alfresco on the outdoor balcony. As the mists set in, head indoors to a romantic dinner in a room adorned with soft lighting and a raised catwalk which showcases the whimsical imagination of the hotel’s designer.

Cacao Café
Cacao is a place for indulgence as you experience the luscious tastes of a French patisserie in the heart of Sapa in northern Vietnam.
